Name the Novel! I'll give you the character(s), you give me the novel title. ("Classic" Literature edition)
Use this ready to go interactive PowerPoint with your high school English students early in the school year to get to know their reading backgrounds and to get them talking about books. This could easily be completed individually, in pairs, or in small groups. The slideshow includes 15 characters from popular classic and contemporary literature in a trivia type format. Most novels meet the criteria for AP Literature and Composition courses or have been referenced in the list for Open Response essay question!
Each slide in the first half of the slideshow includes the character names only, and then the second half of the slideshow allows you to review/discuss the answers. Character names are included once again and the novel title will be revealed when you click a second time.
This resource includes:
1. An editable version of the 32 slide PowerPoint (you can easily add/delete novel titles and replace with others). Answers are revealed in the second part of the slideshow.
2. PDF handout for students to record their answers (two per page)
I love that not only do I get to know my students and their reading habits and backgrounds, but if the activity is presented as a team challenge, I get the chance to observe participation, confidence, leadership, etc. This is a great first day of school or first week of school activity!
