I used this to break the ice and to encourage my students to share their feelings in their new grade.
Some students were eager to share, while others were apprehensive. This gave them each an opportunity to write their true thoughts about their first day/week in school.
It is set up in a story frame format. So the ELL, SPED, and struggling learners have a scaffold to support them. The younger students can dictate the information.
I had them to draw and color a self portrait on the icon. Then I called on volunteers to share. They enjoyed this activity.
