This packet is my back-to-school resource. The lessons and activities help to establish expectations and a classroom community. They can be referred to and revisited throughout the year. My favorite thing about these lessons and activities are that they provide a fun way to talk about boring rules. These will get right to the heart of younger and older children.
The packet contains:
-4 Get to Know You Activities
-Step Up! - Learn about each other quickly through a list of questions where students step up or stay put if it does or does not apply to them.
-Puzzle Pieces - We all bring unique characteristics that are an important part of the group learning experience. We all need each other.
-Play-Dough Sharing - Get students comfortable with talking to their peers.
-Letters in My Name - Let the word analysis begin!
2 First Day Activities
-Welcome Bags - Make the first day memorable and make each student feel welcome with this simple goody bag.
-Time Capsule - Get their dreams started and see how they grow!
4 Behavior Expectation Lessons
-The Day a Monster Came to School - Very popular and effective! Let students know which behaviors are Above the Line, Below the Line and on the Bottom Line.
-Band-Aid Lesson - Never hear, "But that's not fair!" again. Seriously. This lesson helps students understand that fair means getting what you NEED to be successful not always the same thing as everyone else.
-Crumpled Heart - Make students think about the impact of their unkind words and actions on other peoples' hearts.
-Mission Statement - Have students define why they are here and watch them hold each other to it!
