This is an open ended assessment. There is not necessarily only one correct answer to the questions. Students are challenged to think about what they know and answer what they think is best. Included on the test are explaining fractions, partitioning shapes, splitting a whole number into two parts (two numbers to make a whole), an open number line for one by one counting, and sharing equally.
I have successfully given this to my first graders after the first quarter. It really showed me what they knew, what they had misconceptions about, and helped me place my math groups more accurately.
Without choices, students can't guess and get it "right'!
