This how-to writing unit includes lots of opportunities for students to get comfortable with reading, sequencing, retelling, and writing with temporal words (“First, Next, Then, and Last,”) to write their own creative stories. There is also penmanship practice, which is something most students can always use.
There are 3 student booklets provided:
“Now, My Porridge Is Too cold!”
“Dress Up Your Pet Turkey!”
Each story has variations of the activities mentioned above, and there are instructions, and pictures to go with the “step” foldable book that is the sequencing part of one of the stories.
There are writing pages that can be copied as needed, as well as a First, ... Last page without a title so students can write their own piece. The student booklets are made 2 to a page, so you can copy, collate, cut, and staple and conserve on copies, they can even be copied back to back if you wish.
I hope your students enjoy these activities in centers, individually, or in whole class, while practicing and learning this writing standard .
I have another unit in my store called “Writing How-To’s: Making a PB & J Sandwich... and More! which has more practice for this standard.
