This is a game I call "First to 6." It uses the first sounds of the alphabet. You can pick out which letters you want to teach or review with students. There is no set number of players, so you can use as many or as few letters as you'd like. Simply pick the letters and matching mats you want to use. Students each chose a letter mat. Then they take turns drawing a picture. If someone draws a picture that matches the sound of their letter, they get it. The first one to get all 6 pictures wins! It's a simple game, but they don't feel pressure since it's the luck of the draw for the winner.
I have struggled to get my Kindergarteners to remember these letters. I am constantly trying to come up with new games to keep practicing these letters in an engaging, fun way. This is one of their favorite games to practice the letters with. Once they know how to play, they can play independently very easily. I've been using these letter mats all year in stations and just switching out the letters each week. It's been perfect for my intense intervention group.
**It includes 6 pictures for each letter. It also includes the 26 letter mats with a chalkboard or white background depending on your ink printing preference.
