This is designed for students with Autism but some aspects of the board can be used for students who struggle transitioning from activity to activity in general education. Cut out the board and the icons and laminate the pieces. Put a piece of velcro on each side of the board and on the back of the icons.
If the student using the board gets a break after they finish the task, the teacher can put the work icons under "First" and Break under "Then". The board would say "First Work Then Break".
The student in particular this was designed for had intellectual disabilities and sensory issues. The student would scratch, pinch, or curse if he was upset so there are icons on the board to discourage these behaviors. To address sensory issues, he liked a brush, spinning in his seat, or music. If he wanted one of these items, the board would read "First Work Then Music", for example. There are also icons for snack and the pledge. The board could read "First Work Then Snack" or "First Pledge Then Work".
