Everyone loves a class pet!
Not only do they help to establish a warm, inviting environment, they help teach responsibility and the ethics of caring for another living thing.
Class pets are also the perfect excuse for motivating young learners to write. They create a joint experience which all students can use as a writing prompt.
This list of writing activities can be used alongside your class fish as small group activities, whole class writing lessons, or a reading groups activity. It can even make for a great 'fast finishers' task.
Students can choose which activity they would like to do, or you can set one as a task to complete. We have a dedicated 'Fishy Journal' that sits next to our class fish tank. A simple scrapbook from Officeworks or similar with some fishy-themed book contact would make for a perfectly fishy journal!
