Fishing for Words is a game to assist primary students in learning their Preprimer Dolch words or high frequency words.
To "fish" for a word, place all the fish in a bowl or other container and allow a student to move his or her hand around to grab a fish. Young children really enjoy the idea of fishing for their words. Once the student catches a fish he or she reads the word out loud. You, another adult, or their peers make sure the student is correct. This is a terrific game for one-on-one assistance, small groups, or literacy centers. I have seen several students enjoy this game and quickly begin to retain the words.
This game has a black and white game; to provide an easy print out on any color card stock; and a color game to print out on white card stock for a more colorful game.
The included words are the following: a, in, funny, I, run, and, said, away, is, see, big, it, the, blue, jump, three, can, little, to, come, look, two, down, make, up, find, me, we, for, my, where, not, yellow, go, one, you, help, play, here, and red.
