What child doesn’t love to fish?! This clever activity is a fun way to explore feelings. The ability to identify emotions and to recognize emotions in others is crucial in building healthy relationships. Fishing for Feelings offers an engaging experience that will help foster emotional intelligence in children. The activity comes with 12 different fish cards with different feelings words on the back of each card. The possibilities are endless to how you can utilize these cards.
A simple approach would be to place the fish cards in a basket and ask the child to randomly select a fish. Once a fish is selected, the child may act out the feeling word, share a personal experience, or provide a possible scenario as to what caused this emotion.
The most fun and engaging way to play this game is to make a fishing pole. I suggest making a fishing pole using a pencil or stick, string or yarn, worm image (included in the download), and an adhesive magnet. Place a paperclip on each fish and lay them either in a bowl or on a flat surface. Children absolutely love picking the fish up with their fishing pole.
