This is a great worksheet to use during whole group and/or guided reading group to work on retelling character, setting, beginning, middle, and end.
Highlight one finger per day and the student will draw a picture in the palm of the hand to match that finger. Then, the student will write a sentence to describe the picture. For example, if you highlight the tree (setting) the student will draw the setting of the story and write a sentence telling where the story takes place.
These can be printed out for students to write on daily or put into dry-erase sleeves for quick write and wipe follow ups. It's also a great follow-up for library/read-to-self literacy center. You can attach a sheet for homework and have the student write about the book he/she read at home.
