Fear Factor: A Five Senses Exploration is a resource we use during our first science unit of the year when we are learning about the roles of a scientist, science safety, and how to make observations with our five senses. At the end of the unit, we do a Fear Factor themed room transformation. The room is decorated and set up to engage students as they rotate through five stations, each of which is based around one of the five senses. At each station, students make observations and record their ideas in their five senses journal. They may only use the designated sense at each station to make observations. At the end, we reveal what each item was and let students reflect in their journal on the activity. It is always such a fun day and students reminisce on it all year!
