These "orbs" are an awesome display student's understanding of sensory receptors and the brain, the core focus of NGSS performance expectation MS-LS-1-8. I pair this project with a review of how memories are made and stored. We actually study the science behind a very popular film in which the viewer gets to experience a pre-adolescent's mind from the INSIDE... do you know which film that is? If not, feel free to email me and I'll fill you in!
Students will review content while drawing and labeling detailed models of the five types of sensory receptors in the body. Students will find that all receptors lead back to the brain which stores information and memories to determine future action by an organism (in this case, human).
