Incorporate Informative Writing Into Your Social Studies Teaching with this hands-on resource!
The best way that I have found to teach Geography is by incorporating the Five Themes of Geography: Location, Place, Human/Environment Interactions, Movement, and Region. This booklet will feature your city and allow you to cover your geography standards in a fun, hands-on, engaging way.
Students love to be authors and illustrators! Your students will enjoy adding the text and illustrations to this "Ready to Print" resource as they learn about the features of your city including its: landforms, climate, native plants & animals, population, cultures, languages, traditions, occupations, common interests, clothing, transportation, media, location with respect to other significant map features (with a focus on cardinal directions), and more!
Complete a page or two a day for a more in-depth study or use this booklet as a final project or unit review. I have included two versions to allow you to copy and staple to make a traditional FLAT packet, or make a double-sided FOLDED booklet using a long-arm stapler. *Detailed photo-copying instructions included!
I have also included detailed notes about each of the five themes to help you guide your students through the creation of their booklet. I hope your students love learning ALL ABOUT THEIR CITY!
