These "Fix 'Em Up!" no-prep printables are perfect for using WITH students to practice or review various English language conventions (THIS SET IS THE SECOND SET THAT SPECIFICALLY TARGETS BEGINNING CAPITALIZATION AND PUNCTUATION) OR as an assessment tool for the same skills! I usually introduce a "rule", skill, or standard and spend several days modeling and then doing practice with my kiddos before turning them loose for independent practice (the good old "I do, we do, you do" gradual release of responsibility that we all know so well!) and finally an assessment of some sort. These "Fix 'Em Up!" sentences can be used at any stage of the teaching process and serve as a quick, easy assessment tool.
You can also use them as interactive practice with multiple students on an interactive whiteboard! My students love editing and “fixing” my mistakes—THEY get to be MY teacher and point out all of my errors! My kiddos love using them with partners, too, for practice with each other.
For your convenience I’ve also included a spot at the top of each page where you can record each child's score (____/total points possible).
*****This set is ideal for use with first or second grade students who are working with basic capitals at the beginning of sentences and ending punctuation. No other skills are introduced or assessed in this packet.*****
These sentence correction practice pages meet Common Core standards for Conventions of English Language in first, second, and third grade:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.1, 2.1, 3.1
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.2, 2.2, 3.2
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
I am working on finishing and posting multiple sets of these "Fix 'Em Up!" sentences that increase in complexity and progress in a logical sequence through the standards, so if you enjoy this introductory set check back soon for more expanded sets!
