Product Description

This assignment is a Video Reflection of The New Detectives: “Flames of Justice”. A woman dies in a fire. A business catches on fire. The investigators use burn patterns and other evidence to solve the crime. The video is approximately 50 minutes long.

“Sometimes, arson fires are set to cover a different, more heinous crime – such as murder. But killers are wrong to think that fire destroys all vital clues. Arson investigators can pull evidence from scorched rubble and ashes to ignite the unquenchable flames of justice.

As seen on The Discovery Channel, THE NEW DETECTIVES takes you into the world of high-tech detection and crime solution, following the trail of clues along with renowned forensic experts and criminal investigators.”

This video is available on YouTube for free. The link is included with the download.

Several years ago I stopped using accompanying worksheets to videos I show in class. Too many times students are more focused in answering the questions, rather than absorbing what they are watching. But, I wanted the students to be actively engaged with the video. So, I started using “Video Reflections”.

The video reflection handout has two columns on it. Student write what they have learned on the column on the left. They write down any questions they have on the column to the right. At the end of class, each student needs to tell the teacher something they learned, or a question they have.

When given a choice, most students would rather have this type of assignment, compared to a worksheet.
