Learning how to Motion Tween is an absolutely fundamental skill in Flash. This lesson provides a quick, straightforward and fun way for students to learn how to tween away. Motion Tweening is the efficient way of moving items around and adding pizzazz to animations. In this exercise, three dots race around a track and a winner is crowned. In my decade plus teaching Flash, I have found that students can easily follow the steps in the instructions independently in this one. There are a number of repetitive tasks that give students a feel for motion tweening and using the timeline effectively.

Students create reusable symbols that can be stored in the library, and practice the excellent habit of distributing these symbols to layers. This habit makes their work extremely organized and prevents a lot of unnecessary errors when it comes time to animate.
This project allows for differentiated learning, primarily by allowing students to view video instruction for how I created the track (if they want to that is :). The instructions are comprehensive and in the form of clickable and navigable interactive .pdf files. Students who want more in-depth instruction and or review can access the video by clicking on the link within the interactive .pdf instruction files. These videos are hosted online and are available to the students who need them indefinitely. More advanced/motivated students can opt to try to figure things out for themselves without watching the videos. Also, there are a couple of suggested challenges at the end of the instructions that might be appealing to these fast finishers/challenge seekers. If your class is anything like mine, there are plenty of students who like to figure things out independently. This project is ready to go out of the box!
