I created this material with the objective of building phonemic awareness and accelerating the reading process.
This is a great tool for:
Blending syllables to form a word
Segmenting words into a syllable
Small group instruction
Introduce the syllables then call your students in for small group instruction. Show students the flash cards. Cover the black syllable with your hand. Sound out the red syllable saying “mmm aaa dice ma”. Pretend you grab the syllable with your hand, make a fist, tell students I have “ma” repeat several times... “ma ma ma” Then do the same thing with the black syllable. Now you have just formed “masa”. Uncover the picture and tell them “masa” begins with “ma”.
Give the students different flash cards. Tell them not to open until they sound it out. See the excitement as your students read new words and discover the pictures!
