The "Flash Scene" is a great activity to "bridge the gap" between units, or just to get students up on their feet and having fun! The idea is that a scene can be read, rehearsed, and performed within one class period. We spend a lot of time in theatre class building skills, memorizing, and rehearsing for scenes. Preparation is valuable, but so is on-the-fly creation!
This is a participation checklist, feedback form, and reflection space...all on one page! This works best after group-reading the beginning of a play. Then break the class up into appropriate sized groups and give each group a different short scene from the play. Have them rehearse and perform (script-in-hand) all in one class. Works great for "reader's theatre" activities in English classes too!
