Looking for a way to involve students in creating book displays? Want to capitalize on the popular social media trend Flashback Friday? Then this display is for you! This special display is set up once weekly (on Fridays) in the media center to showcase intermediate students’ favorite books from when they were in primary grades. Each week, a different class is selected to create the display. Every student picks a favorite book from childhood, writes a quick blurb on a bright shape, and then attaches the blurb to the book. The books are put on display on a cart with retro items, such as old-fashioned cameras and a typewriter. Book bins with signs hold the extra books on the bottom shelf of the cart. Primary students can use the display to find new reads. Evaluation forms are also included on the display. That way, students can review what they have read and give feedback to the intermediate students. At the end of Friday, the display is rolled away until the next week. This display is quick to put together, involves students in book promotion, and is always evolving to adapt to the different students’ tastes and needs. Come have fun with your own Flashback Friday Book Display! My students are buzzing with excitement when they see the old typewriter and camera. It attracts their attention and draws their eyes to the books. Older students love selecting their favorite books from primary grades and compare notes to see what they were reading when they were younger. Everyone is excited about Flashback Friday Books!
