PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

These 76 task cards include real-life scenarios for students to practice flexible thinking skills. Flexible thinking means being able to perspective take and understand situations in more than one way. Scenarios include a variety of situations, including at home, at school, and with friends. Each task card encourages students to think of at least two reasons for each situation. This will help even the most rigid thinkers to consider other perspectives.

An answer key with sample responses is included. This can help kids work on their own or in small groups to "check" their responses.

These flexible thinking task cards can be helpful to social workers, counselors, psychologists, and special education teachers. Students who struggle the most with flexible thinking include kids on the autism spectrum, those with ADHD, and kids struggling with other emotional or behavioral disabilities.

Why is Flexible Thinking Important?
Flexible thinking involves considering multiple perspectives to a problem or situation, and then using clues to determine what the most reasonable or likely perspective really is. This skill is greatly linked with social skills, as one needs to interpret body language, facial expressions, words, and more to understand the social situations around them. Developing stronger flexible thinking skills can help kids and young adults deal with challenging situations in school, at home, and beyond.

This skill is also strongly rooted in having “Theory of Mind”. This is the ability for someone to understand the other people can have different feelings, moods, and beliefs. Children with disabilities may initially struggle with these concepts, especially autism spectrum disorders.

More Perspective Taking Skills
{ Perspective Taking Workbook }
This workbook teaches perspective taking skills necessary for social skill success. Lessons teach how to see someone else's point of view, consider other people's feelings and thinking, how to identify multiple perspectives, and how you can change your perspective to have a happier outlook.

{ Perspective Taking Task Cards }
These Perspective Taking Task Cards include 80 task cards with real-life scenarios that students may encounter. Scenarios include a variety of situations, including at home, at school, and with friends. The task cards encourage students to consider the feelings, thoughts, beliefs, moods, and motivations of others. The cards can be used in a small pull-out group or a whole class lesson. Two response sheets are also included, allowing students to write and reflect upon the perspectives of others.
