Word Family Flip Books help students expand their vocabulary through understanding rhyming words. After being introduced, they are great for independent and peer group practice. The picture clues help to provide a visual connection to the printed words, and the pages without pictures encourage the development of “sounding out” skills. This package is a great resource for parent volunteers, tutors, cooperative learning, and “checking out” for review at home.
The 10 families included in this package are:
One syllable families Ang, ong, ing, ung, and 2 syllable families ble, gle, tle, kle, dle, and zle.
I have included flash cards without pictures for each of the words in the flip books. The picture cards included with these flash cards can be used for sorting the cards or as bulletin board titles for flash cards used on a word wall.
The 108 words in this package are: gobble, dabble, dribble, bubble, trouble, stumble, pebble, wobble, scribble, nibble, tumble, scrabble, grumble, squabble, mumble, scramble, fiddle, riddle, middle, candle, saddle, peddle, handle, puddle, huddle, cuddle, jingle, jiggle, wiggle, struggle, jungle, snuggle, giggle, squiggle, puzzle, sizzle, nuzzle, guzzle, drizzle, cattle, little, kettle, rattle, bottle, tattle, battle, twinkle, speckle, wrinkle, pickle, tickle, trickle, heckle, freckle, tackle, buckle, crackle, crinkle, chuckle, sprinkle, gong, strong, ping pong, wrong, belong, song, along, long, fang, clang, sang, gang, bang, hang, rang, yin yang, lung, rung, stung, strung, sung, mung, sprung, young, hung, dung, clung, kung, swung, aqualung, flung, king, ring, fling, sting, string, sing, ding, ting, bing, ping, sling, swing, thing, wing, cling, spring, and bring.
This high quality teaching tool requires time to assemble. I find that some older students or a volunteer parent can help, and I often assemble a few at a time.
There are 20 pages to print on 110 lb. card stock. Although color is best, these cards can be printed in black and white (grayscale) on white or pastel colored card stock. More detailed instructions for construction are included in the package, as well as a page of blank cards for your own words or nonsense words.
If you click on the Flip Book link at the left side of the main page of my store you will see all the flip book packages I have made so far. Read through the lists carefully. Some smaller packages are included in larger ones. If you want to be notified of the flip books I make in the future click on the Follow me button on my main page.
I suggest cutting the families apart, keeping all the parts for each family together with a paper clip. Then, punch holes, and use book rings, split rings, or yarn to attach each family.
I am making small drawstring bags for my students to carry their cards and favorite little items. Parents can take the little bag when there will be “waiting time” in a place where flash cards can be studied.
