Product Description
Flip Flop is a card game used to teach and reinforce basic phonics skills. This is an engaging activity that is a student favorite!

How to play:
1 Two or more players can play
2 Teacher or selected student can be the dealer. He/she shuffles the
cards and gives five cards to each player.
3 Put all remaining cards in a pile face down. Flip one card off the
top and place it face up next to the stack.
4 The dealer reads the card by pronouncing the sound of the letters
in red and then the entire word
i.e. If the card is 'mad', the dealer says '/a/ like in mad'
5 The students look at their cards and take turns moving clockwise
around the circle. If they have cards with the same red sound as the one
turned over by the dealer, they can put one card on top of the pile
by saying for example '/a/ like in sad'.
6 If they do not have a matching sound in their hand, they pick up one
card from the facedown pile. If the card they pick up is a match, they
can put it straight down. If the card they pick up is not a match, they
place it in their hand and it's the next player's turn.
7 If the player does not have a match but has a FLIP FLOP! Card in their
hand, they can change the sound being matched.
i.e. If they had the cards 'cat' 'mat' 'sat' they would place down a
FLIP FLOP! Card and say "I'd like to change it to '/a/ as in cat'"
All the players then would have to match for the /a/ sound.
8 The person who is the first to have no cards left is the winner.
