FREEBIE--This packet can be used to teach the sounds of the short vowel and the long vowel in words ending in an ‘e’. Also, students will learn the difference between two of the six syllable types—Closed Syllables and V-C-e Syllables. The closed syllable is the most common spelling unit in English. The vowel of a Closed Syllable is short, and the vowel is closed off to its right by one or more consonants. The V-C-e Syllable is also known as the ‘magic e’ or ‘sneaky e’ or ‘silent e’ syllable pattern. V-C-e syllable contains a long vowel followed by a single consonant and a silent ‘e’. Once students master these two sounds (or syllable types), they have mastered the two most common sounds in the English language.
