I used this activity to kick off our introduction to coins. After learning about the coins, the students flip a coin and graph it. This helps the students recognize the differences between the two sides of the coin while practicing their graphing skills. Afterward, we come together as a class and analyze the number of times the students flipped heads and tails on the interactive whiteboard. I incorporate comparing numbers by using the greater than and less than symbols during this instruction as well. There are four versions of the activity focusing on four coins: penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.
