HOW TO USE THEM:
These Flip and Read Books can be used as you introduce new sound spellings to your students. They are PERFECT for small group instruction, RTI, Word Work, or independent practice! Each page of the Flip and Read book requires students to interact with the phonics pattern in a different way. With these Flip and Read books, students can practice the sound spellings until they reach mastery!
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN EACH FLIP BOOK?
IDENTIFY THE PHONICS PATTERN!
The first page shows the sound spelling and a picture example. Students can re-read this as many times as they need to.
SAY IT, READ IT!
This page requires students to say the picture and then read the word. I like to also have students segment the word before reading it. An easy way to do that is to practice “Penny In the Pot.” Students can drop pennies (or any small objects) into the cups as they say each sound in the word. After they segment the word, have them practice reading it!
MATCH IT UP!
Students have to read a short sentence and match it to the correct picture.
SEE IT, WRITE IT!
Students will say the picture and then write the word. If you wish, students can segment the word before writing it (you could have them practice using “Penny In the Pot” again).
WRITE YOUR OWN!
For this page, students will read all of the words in the word bank. Then, they will write a short story using three of the words.
