Flip the Sound is a great strategy for our young readers. It asks students to consider trying another sound the letter/s can make. It is usually accompanied by a hand flipping motion to remind students to flip the sound when a word doesn't sound right or make sense. You may also use the Flippy the Dolphin beanie baby as a reminder for your students.
This pack supports the teaching of this strategy. It covers 12 letters/letter combinations (short and long a, e, i, o, u, the sounds of y, c, g, ch, oo, ea, and ow) and includes:
-Flip the Sound strategy header for wall display.
-12 cards to add to the wall display as they are introduced.
-2 posters/charts (6 sounds per page). A smaller version of the 12 letter/letter combinations over 2 pages to have at the guided reading table.
-Flip the sound student flip book. Comes with cover and 6 pages (2 sounds per page). Also includes 2 blank pages to add your own sounds and instructions on how to make the book.
I've also added a song for this strategy to my blog as a freebie! Check it out at Down Under Teacher
