Once beginning readers move past the emergent reading phase, their decoding mistakes often involve the medial vowel sounds. In order to help students become more automatic in their reading, Flippy the Dolphin reading strategy is one in which students learn how to monitor the medial vowel sound while reading text. When a word doesn't "sound right" they learn to "flip the vowel sound."
Designed around silent "e" words, this packet has several different activities that are designed for students that have just been introduced to this strategy, and need activities to practice when they are away from small group instruction. They are simple, tried and true activities that help students "train their brain" to start looking at words in a different way.
Hopefully you will find this packet useful for your readers!
