This is a flipchart you can use to help students learn how to add 3 numbers together. This is software for promethean boards and will only work if you have the active inspire software requried.
This flipchart scaffolds students to apply addition strategies that they already know to help them add three numbers. It starts with encouraging them to list all the things they know about adding. Then, tells them that the information they listed can be used to help them do something new - add three numbers! There is a student bear and a teacher bear throughout. The teacher bear guides the student bear through the steps and strategies, such as adding doubles first, or making a ten. Then, after doing a few samples, the teacher and student bear present a few more examples for your students to try. Encourage your students not only to give their answer, but explain their process as well. The flipchart ends with a closing slide that asks students to list the two simple steps used to add 3 numbers (add two numbers first, starting with two you know; then add the third to that).
My students got a kick out of this flipchart as it guided them through the process of adding 3 numbers together. I hope that your students enjoy it too! ~ Sara
