Have you tried Flipped Lessons? They have been a game changer for me! Flipped lessons are basically a way to embrace technology in a meaningful way. This lesson provides everything your math centers need. Teaching, Practice and Assessment. Everything your admin wants to see! You can’t always give direct instruction to ALL your kids with all their levels everyday. Flipped lessons help me feel like I’ve cloned myself. This resource includes 2 video lessons using a ten frame to complete simple addition and subtraction. Your kids will have a “hands on” math lesson without you teaching it!!! They have an opportunity to practice their addition and subtraction skills as they follow along with the lesson. I've also included an additional worksheet so yu can assess their understanding. I use this lesson with a headset splitter so a group of kids can access the lesson together. I also use it on a projector for the whole class. That way I can walk around and assess and lend support because I’m not actually teaching! You can also send it home for homework.
How do flipped lessons work?
When you download the pdf you will get a worksheet with a QR code. The kids simple scan the code and the video pops up. I’ve also incuded a hyperlink to the video just in case you don’t use QR codes. (You can download a QR reader for free!!!) The video talks the kids through the lesson. You can walk away and have a reading group, or help another student.
Flipped lessons have been around in the upper grades for a while, but I hadn’t seen them in kindergarten. I have found they are a powerful tool in giving my kids extra practice with skills they struggle with. It is perfect for my lowest groups who need extra practice. It’s also been a lifesaver for my high kids who need access to more rigorous material.
Give it a try and you’ll be a believer!
