Here’s a quick, easy and super-fun
way to practice fraction vocabulary
, and help students wrap their head around this math concept.
I run the flip ups off on tan construction paper to resemble the crust and color of baked apple pie.
Students fold their paper in half (horizontally) so that the words are on the top, then write their name in the corner.
I have my students write the number 1, and fractions 1/2 & 1/4
on the appropriate pictures, that are underneath the flaps.
I’ve included full color patterns
so that you can easily make a sample to share, as well as a black & white template
for your kiddos to color, cut
There’s also a real apple pie photograph
version as well.
When everyone is done, play “Show Me The Pie!”
as a whole group assessment game
“Show me the fourth of a pie.”
“Show me the whole pie.”
“Show me a quarter of the pie.”
“Show me half a pie.”
Remind, and encourage students to explain fractions to their family using their “fraction action flip up.”
Just for fun, I lightly spritz the back of their flip up with cinnamon apple fragrance.
My kiddos love this, and our room smells delicious.
This craftivity is included in my jumbo Apple Fraction Action Packet.
Buy the bundle and get a lot, while you save a bunch.
However, I had a request
for just the apple pie fraction craft, so here it is. I'm always happy to pull the crafts out of the jumbo packets and sell them separately.
