(Yes, these are "The Five Things"!)
If you haven't used Flocabulary's free video to teach these "five things" to middle grades students, they are missing out! It's all free here:
In addition to Flocabulary's free lesson plan, I hand out the lyrics and ask students to evaluate which is the BEST single definition statement in each verse. For example, in the first verse, "Setting sets the scene so the scene seems set" is not as strong a definition as "Setting gives us the where and the when". In the second verse, "Plot is the action" is okay...but "plot is a *series* of events" is better. This evaluation creates a higher-level thinking task for my students.
What is in this free file is:
* The lyrics (which are also available and free on flocabulary's site, they are just formatted and ready to copy here.)
* A "key" of the best defining statement from each verse (IMHO)
Disclaimer: The lyrics and song belong to Flocabulary. I provide this free as something I created to supplement Flocabulary's great free video and lesson.
