This writing prompt specifically goes with the Harcourt Horizons Florida history book, but can be used with any Florida studies/history curriculum.
This is an excellent resource for incorporating writing into your social studies curriculum! This is a great way for your students to apply what they have learned to a real world situation. I try to hand this writing prompt out on a Monday, and it is due on Friday. As the directions state, students can hand in a rough draft of their work to me by Wednesday, and I will spend a minute or two giving them a quick conference to discuss their work. I do not correct spelling or grammar at this time. We simply talk about the content of their work, are they focused, and if more information should be included.
**During this chapter, we take notes on all of the events that we think were important in Florida eventually becoming a state. We do this as a whole group, and it is a good way to review each of the lessons in the chapter.**
