Florida History Timeline and Task Cards
This is a great way to incorporate Common Core ELA skills in your social studies instruction. You can use these as center activities, group assignments, or even as an Interactive bulletin board. Just print and cut! Laminate for durability.
Note: These are based on Florida 4th Grade NGSS Social Studies and ELA Standards.
14 Timeline Cards:
Each card is half a page, includes a date, primary source photograph or illustration, brief caption, and detailed informational text paragraph. Topics include:
-The Discovery of Florida
-St. Augustine and the Spanish Missions
-Castillo de San Marcos
-The Indigenous People of Florida
-Florida Becomes a State
-Railroad in Florida
-Florida in the Civil War
-Florida and the Spanish American War
-1920's Land Boom and Bust
-Florida's Role in WWII
-18 ELA task cards—these task cards require students to find the answer in the text using reading comprehension skills.
-18 Math task cards—students will use subtraction/elapsed time to solve the problem.
-18 Timeline task cards--basic recall questions to practice timeline reading skills.
-12 Creative Thinking task cards—creative writing, critical thinking, and artistic task cards encouraging students to think deeper about the topics.
-Recording sheets for math, timeline, and ELA. (The creative thinking task cards are open-ended, so you can have students respond on their own paper or journals.)
