Florida recently revised the Common Core State Standards and created its own Florida Standards. These new standards include amendments, deletions, and additions to the original Common Core State Standards, and they will be implemented during the 2014-2015 school year. It is important that Florida teachers are aware of any changes to the standards in their particular grade level. I created this pack to help you track each of the new 2nd grade Language Arts Florida Standards (LAFS).
There is a sheet for each of the Language Arts Florida Standards that includes a place to write the dates you've taught the standard. This is great documentation for PLCs, lesson plans, etc., and it will keep you organized and on-track all year long.
My school district is using the Robert Marzano Evaluation System, which stresses the importance of tracking student learning. We use a 4 points scale to rate how each student is progressing towards the standard, 3 being mastery and 4 being above and beyond. Each sheet includes space to record this information about your students. Simply write your students' names down the left-hand side. Then use the space at the top of the sheet to write down the date/activity you are using to assess the standard. Finally, record how your students did on the assessment using the 4 point scale. If you don't use the scale system, you could simply record their grades. This shows on-going progress and is perfect for data meetings!
I hate having information on several different sheets of paper, so I designed this pack so you have all the information you need about a standard in one place. I even included the Depth of Knowledge (DOK) level for each standard to help guide your instruction. Now you have a place to record when you taught a standard AND track your class' progress towards mastery!
I hope you find this resource helpful in your planning and implementation of the new Florida Standards! Happy teaching!
