Writing is hard work, and it can be quite tricky, especially when trying to remember & include all of the details. One way I’ve found to get kids started with the actual writing part is by using a drawing technique similar to a flow chart, with each drawing a quick sketch representing each part of their story in logical and sequential order, the way in which they are thinking about & remembering it. I call it a Flow Story. Students can use the Flow Story Organizer to help them. Many students may need multiple copies of this organizer in order to have enough room for all of their individual sketches. Once students have told their stories and then represented them visually, they can begin writing their stories down. This is great for all students, even reluctant writers love it!
