This spring word ending and sound blending activity is great for a word work or literacy center. The students use the word endings they know as well as initial letter sounds to create common words they will encounter while reading.
To begin, print the flowers and pots onto either colored or white construction paper or card stock and laminate. The activity can be placed into a pocket chart or just put into a word work/literacy center. The students can either play the game with the letters showing, or turned facing down. This game can be played individually or with a partner. The students choose a flower and a pot and blend the letter sound and word ending together. If their combination makes a real word they can keep their potted flower, if not it goes back to where it started. This is a simple and fun way to practice word endings and blends!
