Animated Step-by-Steps are animated PowerPoints designed to address literacy, language, AAC and a host of academic goals. Each page includes a series of animations. Read the text up to the star … click … and see an animation of what you just read.
There are three versions of this resource. This is the Picture Communication Symbol (PCS) version. Please note Animated Step-by-Steps are not compatible with Keynote.
Three carnations are placed in four cups of colored water to study how the stem of a plant functions. The stem of the first and second carnation are placed in blue and yellow water, respectively. The stem of the third carnation is split along its length with each split-stem being inserted in a different color … one in red water, the other in green water. There are opportunities for students to predict what they think will happen to the three flowers and, where appropriate, to discuss evaporation, transpiration, the cohesive nature of water and the concept of a vacuum. Charts are available to document predictions and document which color works the fastest.
Some teachers like to extend this resource further by expanding the experiment to include drinks of various colors, e.g., cranberry juice, grape juice, gatorade, orange juice.
This resource can be display on the ‘big screen’ (interactive whiteboard, large screen TV using Apple TV) or the ‘little screen’ (computer monitor, iPad or Android tabet using the Microsoft PowerPoint app).
