Almost done teaching "Flowers for Algernon"? Want your students to do more than just take a test? Check out this debate activity! Students work in groups to debate two different questions about the novel. This forces students to closely read the text and provide textual evidence to support their claims.
As a fun twist, I make my kids complete the whole organizer and only tell them which question and side they will be debating the day of the debate! This helps them to be prepared with counter arguments as well.
To extend this activity, you can also have them write an argumentative essay afterwards.
