This is a 4 page lesson plan and a five page handout for students (or you can print it and use it as your overhead). The handout is a student friendly version of the lesson plan. It includes the independent reading / reading log focus for the day (should you opt to use it), the aim, the do-now, a little organizer and space for the do-now response, the key points from the mini-lesson (including definitions, etc), and even the summation.
The lesson plan itself is incredibly detailed. It even includes the expected responses to the do-now question. Also, the lesson is COMMON CORE ALIGNED and includes modifications if you are teaching in a classroom with special needs.
This lesson, in particular, is to teach homophones, such as there, their, they're, and to, two, and too, using Daniel Keyes' Flowers for Algernon. This lesson focuses on Progress Reports 3 and 4 from the text, and it can also be used upon completion of the text, at the end of the unit, or at the end of the semester for review.
