This activity can be done student with students, teacher with student, or volunteer with student. The goal is to improve reading fluency by having a student read multiple times and calculate a score of the correct words read. Personally, I LOVE having a parent do this one day a week. My parent calls students over and gives them two tries to read a story I selected for them (at their level). After two tries, they are sent back to their seat to either read the same book again independently, or to practicing reading the story with a friend that has the same story. Once the parent finishes the last student, they start over again and they get to see if the "Beat the Clock" and improved their score since the first time they did it. This can become a regular activity each week that multiple parents can do in your class to help improve fluency!!! You can use stories that fit your seasonal activities! What a winner!!!!
