I made these activities for the second grade team at my school. The students were working on capitalization and punctuation, but many struggling readers were having difficulty reading the material. The teachers are using the materials as two centers: at the fluency center, students practice reading the passage with a partner and retelling the passage in their own words to practice summarization. Then they find the same passage at the editing center, ready to have punctuation and capitalization added. The project becomes easier if students are already familiar with the passage and how it "should" look. (Some passages contain commas and apostrophes, which add a challenge for more advanced students.) Some teachers laminate or put passages in a sleeve so that students can use a marker on them and they can easily be reused. This product contains eight sets of two matching centers.
