About this Product
There are 12 sets of 20 fluency phrase cards. Be careful when printing! I put blank pages in between each set to separate them, so that they match what is on the assessment sheets. On each set’s third page, there are some blank cards if you would like to make some more cards of your own.
I also included a set of the cards in black and white only, in case you do not want to print in color.
Using this Product
Use the assessment sheets to record what phrases students can or cannot read fluently, while quizzing them with the cards, much the same as with sight word flash cards. You may notice patterns in what phrases students are missing, and can tailor your word study accordingly. For example:
Bob had difficulty with words that are longer than 3 syllables. He needs to practice words that end in –sion.
Students can use these cards with partners. The can practice saying them in different voices. For example, they could read the cards like a giant, like a mouse, like a robot, etc.
Students can use the cards to build sentences. Then partners can put their sentences together and determine how they could form a story with them.
These phrases should range in difficulty. Some of the phrases are common, but may be a bit more difficult vocabulary than others. Students can use the cards to sort into words they know/don’t know, instead of using for fluency. They can look up the words in their “don’t know” pile and create illustrations to match them, or put them in a sentence.
