Are you looking for a fun and competitive way to practice fluency? I love using this game in my classroom because it challenges my students to beat themselves and not worry about others. This game becomes such a positive experience and my kids are always begging to play. I have every first grade sound pattern in the packet. You can use this for a center, to review sound patters, or to introduce sound patterns.
*Print on colored paper for fun
*Laminate to keep them sturdy
*Punch holes in the top of each card
*Cards being used put on a binder ring
*Dry erase markers and eraser
How to Play:
*Pick which cards your students need practice on and put them on a binder ring
*I draw a green circle on first card and red circle on last card so students know where they are
*The whole point of the game is to beat yourself
*Set the timer for 1 or 2 minutes (I use the sand timers) and they will start reading the words, while they read the word, their partner is listening and watching time
*Once timer is over, they will count how many words they read correct and write it down on recording sheet (each card has 10 words)
*Partner goes next then their next turn the goal is to beat themselves
My students get so excited to beat their previous score and they love watching their partners get better too!
