Description

This reading foundations and language arts resource was created for the purpose of giving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students opportunities to fine-tune, strengthen, and perfect their fluency, oral language development, and verbal articulation skills by practicing prosody with reading abbreviations (shortened words) for titles, street names, days of the week, and months of the year.

How It Works: Each strip contains a brief (no more than six words) statement, question, or exclamation. All words--with the exception of the bold-faced words--are read naturally. All bold-faced inflectional ending -ed words appear either in the middle or at the end of each sentence. These prosody sentence strips can be presented and utilized in a variety of settings: whole class, during centers/stations/workshop, within a small group, or working with students one-on-one.

Gentle Suggestions/Tips/Reminders:

*This resource contains a total of 64 prosody sentence strips--about twelve weeks’ worth! TIP: depending on the academic needs and levels of your students, you may wish to introduce one prosody strip per day throughout the course of about three months.

*For your convenience, the prosody strips have been formatted with large, easy-to-read fonts. This makes it easier for students to see and read the strips should you choose to post them in a prominent place, such as a whiteboard or on a classroom door.

*This product is perfect for use with ELD/ESL/EFL students; students receiving speech therapy services; RSP (Resource Specialist Program) students; or students who just need a little more practice with their fluency and oral language development skills.

*These prosody sentence strips can also be utilized during literacy centers/stations.

*Also included is a student cover, should you want to make a "book" for your students.

*One (1) prosody sentence strip tracker is included with this resource.

*INK SAVER ALERT! ALL usable pages have been produced in black, white, or gray ink.
