Students enrolled in intensive reading or those who are low readers can often benefit simply from the act of reading out loud to increase their fluency. This sheet includes a short excerpt (about 280) words from the Wizard of Oz for students to use to practice oral fluency. The sheet includes the number of cumulative words read per line along with a table in which they will record their reading rates. It is set up as a homework sheet but can be used in stations inside of the classroom. The product is provided in Microsoft Word so that the teacher can easily make tweaks to it if necessary (for instance, if it is not desired as a homework assignment, the homework labels can be deleted, etc.). Students often enjoy seeing immediate progress as they practice reading. This sheet allows them to feel productive and provides pretty relevant, instantaneous feedback. If you like this sheet, search for the packet also provided on my site with eleven additional excerpts.
