I designed this packet so that I can work on fluency with my emerging readers. They are so excited when they can read a short emergent reader! Many have exclaimed, “I want to read more! I don’t want to stop!” So, why not design a unit so that they don’t have to stop?

In this unit you will find several different activities that are designed to work together during full group, small group and center time for the children to practice reading predictable sentences about the 3 Bears for fluency! The sentences are designed in a way that promotes comprehension/retelling of the 3 Bears story, as an added bonus!

Specifically, you will find these activities:

-Pocket chart activity for full group introducing the concept of “predictable” sentences and patterns.
-sentence strips with predictable sentences to be put on a ring for independent practice. Each set is color coded and features a certain sight word and a tracking sheet so the children can keep track of which sets they have read and how many times!
-sentence strips with predictable sentences to be put on a ring for independent practice. Each set is color coded and features a certain character, so the sentences are varied (providing more of a challenge and for differentiation!) and a tracking sheet so the children can keep track of which sets they have read and how many times!
-roll and read strips for either large pocket charts or the student table top ones
-spin and read sentences for either large pocket charts or the student table top ones
-story character pointers you can make so that the children are tracking their print!
-“Find a Partner Who” puzzle cards- students match a story character word to the character’s picture. I also use this sometimes as a quick way to partner up my students!
-Worksheets-
-Roll and Read
-“Make your own” fluency booklets

It is common core aligned and covers these standards:

RF.K.3 I can read my high frequency words.
RF.K.4 I can read with purpose and understanding.


My kiddos LOVED this set so much, I have decided I will be making more with different themes! 
