Use the dice to shake up your regular fluency routine! Typically, students are anxious about the cold-read, excited about the hot-read, and bored with the repeated readings in between; now they don't have to be!
This activity can be used with ANY passage or task card. After students have battled or breezed through the cold-read, they will take turns with their partner rolling the dice and reading the fluency passage/task card in the way prescribed on the dice. This means that for their repeated practice readings, they could be singing the text to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, or snapping their fingers instead of reading the "th" words.
For struggling students, it can relieve the pressure of reading aloud, since the tasks are a bit awkward anyway. For advanced, already fluent readers, it becomes an entertaining competition between partners about who can read it better, or make the fewest number of mistakes according to the task. In the end, your students will spend their time with some hard focus on words and punctuation of a passage, which is the ultimate goal of fluency practice.
