This product was designed to supplement Lesson 10 in Level 3 of the Barton Reading & Spelling System but can be used in any phonics program. Students practice reading phrases that contain contractions to achieve fluency. They also practice combining words to form contractions. There are four different activities included.
1. Roll 'n Read #1 game--Two to four students play this game.
A player rolls a die and then reads a phrase containing a contraction in the corresponding box. If read correct, the player highlights the phrase. Players take turns rolling the die and reading a phrase. The person who highlights all of the phrases in one box first is the winner.
2. Roll n' Read game #2--Played like game #1. The phrases in this game contain words that can be combined to form contractions. Students read the phrase as is first. Then they combine two words in the phrase, write a contraction on the blank, and re-read each phrase using the contraction.
3. Phrase flash cards--Students practice reading short phrases individually or with a partner.
4. Writing Activity--Students use phrases from the flash cards to write sentences.
