Standard 5.NBT.B.5 asks students to fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers. These activities begin with concrete activities, and move to representational and finally abstract. Students become fluent based on strategies that teach conceptually in order to lead to procedural fluency. These task cards are great for whole class, small group, guided math, centers, RtI, or reteaching.
Activities in this packet include the following:
Representing Multiplication with Place Value Strips
Multiplying a Two-Digit Number Using Base-Ten Blocks
Visualizing partial products
Multiplying Using the Area Model and Place Value
Multiplying Using Partial Products
Multiplying Using a Standard Algorithm
